Salmon 2009
The winter angling festival Salmon 2009
The first day of the New Year, the banks of the Slupia River were teemed with anglers who just began the winter-season of fishing of the sea trout and the salmon. The managements of Polish Angling Association in Slupsk with the cooperation of The Municipality and The Poviat Starosty in Slupsk organized the open angling picnic called Salmon 2009. This picnic is now an annual winter event in Slupsk.
The registration of anglers took place in the morning hours in front of the Richter Granary, while notifying the caught fish and the beginning of the judicial committee works lasted to 13 o'clock. In the regular time of competition only 13 fish were caught. Unusually warm December of the past year caused that fish floated from spawning grounds to the Baltic Sea a month ago. The last year's epidemic of the soor which decimated kelts had also its consequences. Citizens of Słupsk had an opportunity to see ill fish entering the spawning every day, greatly visible from concrete bridge, being found at the Ducal Castle Mill.
Additionally, during the picnic, the competition of the angling and ecological knowledge took place. Besides of this, traditionally, the award was received by the oldest and the youngest participant of the competition. The organizers took also care to provide hot drinks and „angling” pea soup for all attendants and guests of the winter festival.
