Slupsk bridges and parks
In Slupsk, there are eleven bridges, eight of which are on the Slupia River and three are on the Mlynowka River. Five bridges are road traffic constructions: the bridge Zamkowy (eng. Castle Bridge), the bridge Kowalski (eng. Blacksmith's Bridge), the bridge Kaszubski (eng. Kashubian Bridge), the bridge Dziewic (eng. Virgin's Bridge) and the bridge Bonawentury Jegierskiego (eng. Bonawentura Jegierski's Bridge). There is one railway bridge and four bridges for pedestrians and bicycles. The bridge Czolgowy (eng. Tank Bridge) and the bridge Weselny (eng. Wedding Bridge, a name from the past no longer used) on Slupia. A bridge in Park of Culture and Leisure, called the bridge Drewniany (eng. Wooden Bridge) before the war, and a bridge near the Castle Mill, both on Mlynowka River.
Slupsk parks and squares were being developed for over a century. Its basic framework, that is today's Sienkiewicza Avenue and a park between Jagielly and Jana Pawla II Streets, was in place already in the 19th century. Another squares and greens were established separately and in different periods. The development of vast town green areas resulted from activities of Slupsk bookseller Karl Schrader (1843÷1923). He was the one who made councillors establish parks and greens and surround Slupsk peripheries with green fences: South and North Forests.
Slupsk bridges and parks are inseparably associated with the city. They are a part of Slupsk culture and historical identity the same as historic objects are.
